Jim Krane, Wallace S. Wilson Fellow for Energy Studies, Baker Institute

Saudi Arabia and the other big Middle Eastern oil producers face a number of simultaneous threats to their economic wellbeing:

  • At home, fast-growing oil demand has made them some of the world’s most energy intense countries. Continuing growth in consumption could threaten their exports.
  • Simultaneously, the world is beginning to act to curtail fossil fuel combustion, which could undermine demand for crude oil.
  • The direct effects of climate change are exacerbating the intensity of already searing Gulf summer temperatures, calling into question the long-term habitability of the region

Mr. Krane will discuss strategies these countries are developing to address these emerging challenges

1:00 – 1:45 pm         “Becoming a Cohesive Company”
Ravi Kathuria, President, Houston Strategy Forum

In the past few years, E&C companies have driven cost efficiencies to respond to market pressures and customer demands. Customer engagement is now taking the shape of greater integration. Meaningful integration, however, can only survive and thrive on the foundation of clarity and cohesion. E&C companies must drive greater clarity and cohesion within their organization, and drive clarity and cohesion in their engagement with customers. Clarity and cohesion will lead to greater trust, which will lead to higher speed and quality. The million dollar question: What does it entail to become a cohesive company?
