“The New Emerging Best Practices for Digital Assets Handover by EPCs to Owners”
In the new world of digital transformation, what is the best practice for delivery of the digital asset during information handover? This is a question that has long troubled both EPCs and owner operators, but there is a new guideline emerging – the Capital Facilities Information Handover Specification (CFIHOS). CFIHOS is a strategic part of a digital transformation strategy that is based on mandatory use of CFIHOS guidelines, combined with leveraging smart, data-centric software to manage the data during the project and facilitate the transition to operations.
For the Owner: Provision of data during handover to operations – whether incomplete, insufficient, or existing in incompatible formats, will potentially delay ‘First Production’ schedule. This will increase owner side project costs, and operational costs going forward. Industry experience shows that handover using traditional methods can be as high as 6 to 8 percent of the capital project cost. Successful implementation of the new industry standard, CFIHOS could reduce this to between 2 and 4 percent!
For the EPC: Adoption of CFIHOS based project delivery methods allows for reduction of cost, so as to win business, enables further optimization of internal project work processes, and facilitates a consistent, known methodology that removes the need to know what to handover as it is already recognized as the company best practice.
Join Mac McGarrigle, from the Hexagon PPM Digital Transformation Practice, who will explain the win – win situation CFIHOS provides for both the owners and EPC in a part of this digital transformation journey.
